BuzzBID Technical Recommendations
Hardware & Performance Guide
BuzzBID is a high-performance estimating platform built to handle large plan sets, detailed assemblies, and complex project data. Unlike lightweight desktop applications, BuzzBID is designed to scale with project size and take advantage of modern hardware, including multi-core CPUs, high-speed storage, and ample system memory.
While BuzzBID will run on systems that meet the minimum requirements, overall speed and responsiveness improve significantly with stronger hardware—especially as projects grow.
BuzzBID uses a SQL-based database architecture capable of performing parallel (multi-threaded) operations across multiple CPU cores. This allows calculations, queries, and data processing to occur simultaneously, improving performance on larger projects.
Recommended System Configurations (OK / Better / Best)
🟢 OK — Entry-Level / Smaller Projects
Suitable for basic workflows and smaller projects. Performance may decline as project size and data volume increase.
-
Memory (RAM): 16 GB
-
Processor (CPU): 4–6 core modern CPU (3.0 GHz or higher)
-
Storage: SSD
-
How BuzzBID Uses This System:
BuzzBID runs successfully, but limited memory and fewer CPU cores restrict how much data can be processed in parallel. Larger projects may rely more heavily on disk access, reducing responsiveness. - Best for:
BuzzBID Standard, light estimating, project management, smaller plan sets, minimal multitasking.
🟡 Better — Recommended for Most Users
The best balance of performance and value for the majority of BuzzBID users.
-
Memory (RAM): 32 GB (Recommended)
-
Processor (CPU): 6–8 core CPU with strong single-core performance (3.5 GHz or higher recommended)
-
Storage: NVMe SSD
-
How BuzzBID Uses This System:
Multiple CPU cores support parallel SQL operations, while additional memory allows more project data to remain in RAM. This results in smoother navigation, faster calculations, and better performance on larger projects. -
Best for:
BuzzBID Advanced for medium to large projects, multiple drawing sets, consistent multitasking.
🔵 Best — Power Users / Large Projects
Designed for maximum performance, scalability, and long-term flexibility.
-
Memory (RAM): 64 GB or more (Optimal)
-
Processor (CPU): i9 Processor or equivilent, 8+ core high-performance CPU
-
Storage: High-speed NVMe SSD
-
How BuzzBID Uses This System:
Higher core counts enable efficient concurrent SQL operations, while large memory capacity minimizes disk usage. Performance remains consistent even with very large datasets and multiple active applications. -
Best for:
BuzzBID Advanced for very large plan sets, complex assemblies, enterprise estimating, power users
✅ Why Memory Matters
As BuzzBID projects grow in size and complexity, the amount of active data increases. To maintain performance, BuzzBID keeps drawings, quantities, assemblies, and calculation data in memory whenever possible.
When memory is limited, the system must rely on disk storage, which is significantly slower than RAM.
Upgrading from 16 GB to 32 GB:
-
Allows more project data to remain in memory
-
Reduces delays caused by disk access
-
Improves responsiveness during navigation and calculations
For very large or complex projects, 64 GB or more provides additional performance headroom and future-proofing.
Other Hardware
| Monitor | Multiple 24" or larger monitors, 1920 x 1080 resolution, 100% display scale. BuzzBID will support up to 6 monitors, but most user have 2 or 3. |
| Mouse |
Wired or Wireless, with Treadwheel for middle finger scrolling.
|
System Software
| Windows | Microsoft Windows 10 / 11. 64-bit. |
| Privileges | Standard Windows user account, no administrative rights are required. |
| Internet | Internet access is required for installation and operation. |
| Browser | HTML5-compliant web browser, e.g. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc. |
| Antivirus Software | The majority of antivirus software has been successfully tested with BuzzBID, with the exception of Avast. We strongly advise against using Avast Antivirus, as it is known to cause conflicts that can negatively impact overall system operation, performance, and permissions. |
Installation Details
| Architecture | BuzzBID is architected to use concurrent multiple threads of execution, sharing the resources of a single or multiple cores. |
| Database | BuzzBID has an integrated database engine and does not require any external database engine. |
| Application | Runs within System context without any background Services |
| Virtual | Installation in Azure, Amazon, Workspot, and equivalent virtual Windows PC environments is allowed. |
| Installer | File type is .MSIX and will install after download with only a double-click. File type .MSI is available on request. |
| Location | C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\BuzzBID\ |
| Data |
BuzzBID stores its database locally at C:\Users[your profile]\BuzzBID This location may be changed; however, for optimal performance and reliability, the database should reside on a local disk. Cloud-based or streaming virtual drives (such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, or similar services) introduce latency and file-locking behavior that can interfere with database operations and are not recommended. ⚠️ Because BuzzBID stores its database locally (e.g., under C:\Users[profile]\BuzzBID), ensure it is included in your regular backup routine to maintain data recoverability. |
| Apple macOS | While BuzzBID can function on Apple macOS using Parallels®, this configuration is not supported. Official support is limited to native Windows installations. |
